Jeremy Chivers

Principal

Responsibilities: Jeremy is responsible for the day-to-day running of Tuson and Partners’ London office. His key focus is on private clients including expatriates and non-UK domiciliaries, more complicated UK tax planning, cross-border tax advice and HM Revenue & Customs tax investigations.

The road to Tuson & Partners: Jeremy studied engineering at the University of London followed by an MBA.  Following graduation, he caught the tax bug and has worked for international and medium sized practices before settling at Tuson and Partners.

Memberships: Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts, member of Chartered Association of Taxation, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management, Chartered Manager.

Aim: “To think outside the box to find the solution to solve the client’s problem.”

Most entertaining cases or deals: “There are many, but I was involved in a complex case involving anti avoidance that resulted in a change in the legislation.  I also represented an Italian client in the Royal Courts of Justice regarding the importation of wine which was an interesting case.”

Proudest professional moments: “Getting the best results for my clients, many of which have become personal friends.”

What I like about my job: “Making what initially seems difficult seem easy.”

Interests outside work:  “A strained relationship with West Ham!  I also have an interest in the Corporation of London and am a Freeman of the City,”Responsibilities:

Chris Moody

Responsibilities: Chris’s main focus is on compliance work for private clients and owner managed businesses.

The road to Tuson & Partners: Chris studied mathematics at University.  Following graduation, he joined Spicer & Pegler and worked for them for over 17 years.  After the merger with Deloittes Chris stayed for 2 years before joining Kingston Smith, now Moore Kingston Smith, who he still works for as a consultant. Chris has been with Tuson and Partners for over 10 years.

Memberships: Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and  Chartered Tax Adviser.

Most entertaining cases: “Representing clients at the Tax Tribunal, or its predecessor body, the General Commissioners, especially when I was able to win for the clients.”

Proudest professional moments: “Working through complicated capital gains transactions, in shares or in property, to analyse the correct basis, and hopefully the most tax advantageous, result for the clients.”

What I like about my job: “I am a volunteer adviser at TaxAid, a charity whose main function is to provide free tax advice to people on low incomes who cannot afford to pay a professional advisor, from 2002 to date. From 2004 to 2008, I was an assistant examiner for the Chartered Institute of Taxation. I have been a fan of Leyton Orient since school days and more recently have been following Reading.”

Richard Pooley

Responsibilities: Richard is responsible for the legal aspects of the practice advising individuals on personal matters, including succession and inheritance issues.  He also advises businesses on general legal matters.  Richard acts as a proactive link between the practice and the City of London legal profession.

The road to Tuson & Partners: Richard qualified as a solicitor more than 30 years ago. Whilst Richard recently retired as a practicing solicitor he continues to provide support in the legal arena and is well respected in the legal profession.

What I like about my job: “I get pleasure in taking clients where they want to go through legal mazes.”

Interests outside work: “I have been involved with the Citizens Advice Bureaux for many years assisting with a broad range of legal issues.

Nirmal Nepal

Responsibilities: Nirmal is responsible for overseeing the accounting and compliance for the practice and has over 10 years experience of working with a range of clients in public practice in a variety of industries. He has extensive experience advising owner managed businesses, directors, partnerships and sole traders, covering corporate taxes, personal taxes, VAT, payroll, bookkeeping, business advisory and tax planning.

The road to Tuson & Partners: Nirmal qualified and built up his experience in small and medium sized practices before settling at Tuson and Partners.

Memberships: Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants

Aim: “To help entrepreneurs to move their business to the next stage.”

Proudest professional moments: “Handling the accounting and due diligence aspect of the sale of a reinsurance company which we had dealt with since incorporation.”

What I like about my job: The challenge of bringing it all aspects of a case together to arrive at a solution”

Interests outside work: “I have two lovely children and a wife who take up most of my free time”
